5 Easy Ways To Build Confidence Through Personal Style

Posted In: Fashion | My Outfits

I strongly believe that clothes have super powers. Probably each of you had these wonderful moments when you look at yourself in a mirror and you feel nothing but happiness, satisfaction and pride – you look and feel so amazing that you know the world is your oyster and you can achieve anything you want.

Your style and the clothes you choose reflect and affect your mood, health, and overall confidence. Scientists even came up with a name for this phenomenon  – enclothed cognition. They argue that clothing significantly influences how others perceive you and how they respond to you but most importantly it affects your confidence levels.

Confidence is definitely among the most important things that we must master in life. It can mean the difference between you and everything you want out of your life. It takes confidence to believe in yourself and without believing in yourself it is extremely hard to achieve your goals and dreams.

Building confidence is probably a lifelong task, but there are so many different ways we can increase our confidence on a daily basis which will make a huge difference. And as a fashion stylist I always suggest to start building your confidence with how you dress. You might be sceptical but you can’t underestimate how much of an impact the right image can have on your prospects, your personality and the way the world perceives you. When I worked as a career coach I witnessed many times how a few changes in individuals’ appearance made them noticeably more confident. And this is why I decided to share my top tips how to use your personal style to boost your confidence.

It’s not easy to feel confident when you are thinking about your flaws. Each of us have areas that we don’t like but instead of thinking how to hide them, let’s focus on the parts we love. Think about what you love the most about yourself and enjoy basing your style around those features. Loving your legs? Wear a short skirt! Loving your new manicure? Why don’t you wear some beautiful jewellery for everyone to notice the new colour of your nails. Believe me you will feel great about yourself and no one will notice your flaws.

Last week I talked about what it feels to step out your comfort zone and why it is usually a great thing. Starting with new accessories is the safest and least scary way to try something new. Don’t be afraid to pick up a brightly coloured handbag, fun sunglasses, colourful shoes or that new trend piece. It will instantly uplift your mood and you feel really great about yourself that you were not afraid of trying something new.

Even though I encourage you to try something new, never walk out the door feeling unsure about your outfit choice. I am all for experimenting with your style, but if you are uncertain about an outfit before you leave the house, odds are you won’t feel 100% confident about your look once you are in public. When you feel comfortable in your outfit, you exude confidence, it is as simple as that. However this does not mean that you should show up to your next big meeting or interview in a sweat-suit.

Think about the pieces that made you feel empowered and at your best. Start with remembering a time when you felt great about what you wore and analyse why. Did you like the fit, colour or silhouette? Use the same attributes as a guide for choosing other items of clothing. Once you found your special items, don’t be afraid to re-style them over and over. There are so many different ways to wear the same piece of clothing (I am starting new series to show how shortly) that you will never look the same.

No one is ever going to love you more than you love yourself. Instead of fighting with yourself, beating yourself up or being hard on yourself, accept yourself and love who you are with all your flaws. This is what makes you unique!

For me personally a power outfit always begins with a great pair of heels and a red lipstick. What pieces in your closets help you to feel more confident?

Wow girl – you are so rocking that look and I’m all over those red trousers. You are so right when you talk about confidence – I think many of us suffer with anxiety issues and our confidence is often knocked…feeling confident (if only pretending) can have a huge impact on the decisions we make – all good of course. Feel the fear and do it anyway, right?!

It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut with your wardrobe, I’ve been guilty of that with boring school pick up jeans and a t-shirt. Need to make more of an effort and try some new things – great looks here 🙂
