5 Easy Steps To Create A Signature Style

Posted In: My Outfits

Fashion icons are famous for having their unique signature styles and this is actually what makes them so stylish.  They created a signature style that is instantly identifiable, in the sense that when you see something in that style, you immediately think, “that’s SO Audrey/Grace/Gaga/Alexa/Carrie Bradshaw.”

And this is for me, what personal style is all about. It’s something very different from fashion. Fashion is about following trends and changing your look from season to season. Basically, fashion is what we buy and style is what we do with it.

Lots of women think that in order to be stylish you have to be born with a great style sense and these type of women instantly know what they like, what suits them and so they get to go through life looking effortlessly stylish, without even having to think about it. Working as a personal stylist I can assure you that style is just like any other skill that can be learnt. The only difference between a stylish and dowdy women is that the former one is committed to learning about what different fashion styles and what looks good on her.

So today I want to share 5 easy steps how to create a signature style and always look effortlessly stylish at all times.

#1 Clean Out Your Wardrobe

Every major style change (or life change, for that matter) has to begin with a closet clear out. If you’re anything like most of my clients, I bet you’re hanging on to tons of clothes you don’t wear, or which don’t suit you – and you’re probably buying more of them, too, just because you don’t really know what else to do. And the key to nailing personal style is all about having an efficient and well organised wardrobe, so get rid of old, ripped clothes or anything which you don’t feel great in.

#2 Understand Your Body Shape

Stylish people who you admire don’t look great at everything, they just know what silhouettes are flattering on them and they are sticking to them. And this is exactly what you need to do. An essential part of defining your signature style is understanding your body and learning how to accentuate the parts you love and hide the ones you don’t. It means that you might need to limit yourself to certain styles but this will guarantee that you will look great in everything you own.

#3 Find Your Signature Pieces

Most of our ultimate style icons have signatures that you can spot a mile off. This can be an accessory, a colour, a print or even a beauty trick. I personally love a great pair of high heels and most times as you can see here and here and here they are the main focal point of my outfits. Also think about items that you feel great and the most confident in, my style is very feminine and I tend to wear many different dresses all year around.

#4 Seek Inspiration

Don’t worry that you will look like somebody else, pulling different types of inspiration from several sources is a great way to figure out what you like and dislike. It’s also a great way to learn about unexpected ways to mix and match colours, prints or how to accessorise.

#5 Be Confident And Love Yourself

The most attractive woman is the one who is sure about herself and who is radiating confidence. Cultivate your uniqueness and be sure about yourself.

Having your unique signature style not only helps you to be more visible and feel more empowered, it also puts the end to feeling lost and overwhelmed at clothes stores and wasting money on clothes you actually never wear, spending too much time getting ready in the morning because you have “nothing” to wear or stepping out in public and feeling uncomfortable in what you’re wearing. When you know what suits you and you are happy with your style you are buying only the right clothes that you wear and love for more than a season, you eliminate time and stress getting ready in the morning and your every outfit a fabulous outfit so you always feel like yourself, you’re attracting the right people and the most importantly you feel confident and empowered in what you’re wearing.

One of the first steps I do when I start working with a client I ask them to complete their style assessment and goals workbook which helps them to start defining their signature style. And today I am sharing this workbook with you.
